WHAT IS THE HIGH PERFORMANCE SQUAD?

The SLSNZ High Performance Squad (‘HP Squad’) is where New Zealand representative teams are generally selected.  Selection into the HP Squad is made according to the SLSNZ Squads and New Zealand Team Selection Policy.  Enquiries can be directed to the SLSNZ High Performance Manager Tanya.hamilton@surflifesaving.org.nz Mob 0279472612.

Ocean & Beach Selection Information

Applications for Selection for ocean and beach athletes are now open - CLICK HERE  All athletes are encouraged to apply by the weekend of Whangamata Classic so selectors know, prior to the season’s events, athletes wishing to be considered for selection in 2023.

Who can apply?  Current ocean and beach HP Squad athletes and new athletes aspiring to compete on the world stage in the next two years can also apply.

Selection Events:  Athletes and coaches should refer to the Selection Policy Section 10.0 for Selection Events.

Selection Announcements:  The selection announcement for ocean and beach athletes is scheduled post Aussies 2023. Any changes to this timeline will be communicated.

Surf Boat Selection Information

New Zealand Surf Boat Trial:  Under 23 and Open Male & Female crews who wish to be considered for selection to represent New Zealand at the Trans-Tasman Surf Boat Challenge to be held on February 4, 2023 at Waihi Beach.

Selection:  Selections will be made in accordance to the SLSNZ Surf Boat Selection Policy. Selectors will hold an online information session for all crews entered into the Trial on Monday 28 November. Crews entering the Trial need to ensure all members:

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for both the Trial and the Trans-Tasman Surf Boat Challenge
  • Are able to compete at the Trans-Tasman Surf Boat Challenge on February 4, 2022 at Waihi
  • Agree to pay an athlete contribution towards the campaign
