Whangamata SLSC is based in the Coromandel. Whangamata SLSC was officially formed on 1 December 1949, at this time there were only 6 Volunteer Lifeguards to patrol the beach. Whangamata SLSC have come a long way since the inception and now boast a strong membership base and have some of the best club facilities within Surf Life Saving New Zealand, Whangamata offer full time professional patrols during the peak summer period.

Whangamata Beach is patrolled on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from 20 October 2018 to 22 April 2019. Volunteer lifeguards patrol from 11:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays and 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sundays from 20 October 2018 to 16 December 2018. Between 22 December 2018 and 10 February 2019 hours are extended to 10:00am to 5:00pm all weekend. From the 16 February 2019 to 22 April 2019 lifeguards patrol from 11:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays and 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sundays.
A Regional Lifeguard Service operates Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm from 17 December to 1 February 2019.
