Located in the heart of beautiful Brighton just a short 20 minute drive south of Dunedin city. The Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club has been operating since its establishment in 1937 and has a long and proud history of national competition success. It is regarded as one of the strongest Southern Region Clubs and competes with distinction at both regional and national level.
On the popular southern scenic route, Brighton beach is sheltered amongst rocks and regarded as a relatively safe beach in comparison to other Dunedin beaches that are more exposed to weather conditions. It is a great family beach and hot days see it attracts many hundreds of swimmers. The Brighton Surf Lifesaving patrols are consistently among the best in Otago offering excellent preventative actions with proactive life guard practices working to keep the swimmers safe.

Brighton Beach is patrolled on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays between 3 November 2018 and 10 March 2019. Volunteer lifeguards patrol from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. A Regional Lifeguard Service is provided Monday to Friday from 11:00am to 7:00pm during 17 December 2018 to 25 January 2019.
