New Zealand IronMan and IronWoman Deliver Nutri-Grain Iron Series Best Results

Monday, 5 February 2024

New Zealand stars Joe Collins and Olivia Corrin have delivered career best performances in the Nutri-Grain Ironman & Ironwoman Series finishing second and third respectively on the overall Series ladder.

Collins has been knocking on the door of Day and Matt Bevilacqua for the last three years and has his sights firmly set on becoming the first New Zealand Ironman to win the overall Series crown.

Today's second place finish overall is his best Series result and he firmly believes the best is yet to come.

“I’ve been chasing Ali for the last couple of years. Now I finally get to keep up with him and actually contest a race with him. Stoked with how today went and Ali is a class athlete.

“I really tried to give it to him in that last [race] … I went close but no cigars. I’ll be chasing him next year and over the next couple of weeks before the Aussies.

“At my young age, I’m only 21 years old, I’ve got another 10 years or so in the sport. I’m not going to get complacent, I’ve got to keep my composure and continue on,” he said.

It was a break-out season for Corrin, who didn’t have the best day today at the office failing to qualify through to the final race, still managed to get her first overall podium finish for the Series, finishing third.

"It’s so surreal I can’t actually believe it’s happened. It was a bit of a bitter sweet ending… but I’m just so stoked overall.

"Going into this Series, I knew consistency was going to key overall so that was my main goal to just be consistent every round and my ultimate goal was to re-qualify and I’ve exceeded that by far. I’m just speechless," said Corrin.

Today wrapped up the 2023-24 Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman Series, with the next major event the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Sunshine Coast 13-21 April 2024.
