Griffin’s ‘Chips In’ to Boost Beach Safety with SLSNZ

Monday, 9 October 2023

A favourite New Zealand snack will be used this summer to help support Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) in keeping beachgoers safe.

For the first time ever, SLSNZ has joined forces with Griffin’s Snacks, known for their beloved Eta Ripples chips.

For every 150g packet of Ready Salted, Chicken and Salt & Vinegar sold, Griffin’s will donate five cents to SLSNZ.  This contribution will be used to help provide training, resources, and support for Surf Life Saving clubs across the country, enabling them to continue reducing drownings and help keep beachgoers safe.

Steve Fisher, SLSNZ CEO, said, “Despite our surf lifeguards saving hundreds of lives every year, New Zealand’s beach and coastal fatal drowning rates are still increasing.  More education, more surf lifeguards, and more equipment are needed, so the support from Eta Ripples’ chip-lovers across the country is more important than ever and is hugely appreciated.”

SLSNZ represents 74 Surf Life Saving clubs with more than 18,000 members, including over 4,500 volunteers surf lifeguards who patrol over 90 locations each summer.

Fisher added, “Our organisation is not fully funded, so we treasure partnerships like this.  Without financial contributions from our amazing partners like Griffin’s, we can’t do our job.”

Eta Ripples chips with the new Surf Life Saving collaboration pack design can be purchased at supermarkets and most good convenience stores across New Zealand from October.

Carolyn Stewart, Griffin’s Snacks Group Brand Manager, said, “Eta Ripples are a tasty and affordable chip of choice for Kiwi’s when they visit the beach with friends and whānau and we’re incredibly proud to be supporting SLSNZ – the people who help make sure they’re safe while they’re there.”
