Surf Lifesaving National Leadership Programme wraps up in Gisborne
Monday, 20 March 2023The latest instalment of Surf Life Saving New Zealand's (SLSNZ) bp Leaders for Life Programme has officially wrapped up in Gisborne, after an extended 2 years of hard work by young leaders around New Zealand
14 young leaders from Surf Life Saving Clubs across the country have been upskilling to build their leadership skills while forging stronger community outcomes. The purpose of the bp Leaders for Life is to enhance the ability of current and emerging leaders, which previous graduates say is “an amazing year long journey”.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand Education Manger Belinda Slement says “its great to be able to showcase the Gisborne region to host the finish of this programme, especially after all our recent weather events, and see the leadership skills and knowledge the group have developed.
"It really is so much more than just a leadership programme. We've seen how the benefits extend beyond the individual participant into their clubs and the local community and we look forward to seeing that benefit continue for this year’s candidates," she says.
bp Leaders for Life was created in 2012 as part of a national strategy to support a wide range of development activity for members right across the Surf Life Saving community.
"All of the participants and everyone at Surf Life Saving New Zealand would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to bp who fund this programme, giving these young people the opportunity to grow."
