NEW ZEALAND’S MCKENZIE PLACES THIRD AT 2022/23 NUTRI-GRAIN IRONMAN AND IRONWOMAN SERIES ROUND THREE IN SYDNEY

New Zealander Danielle McKenzie (Northcliffe) has secured her first podium of the 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series season, placing third at Maroubra Beach (NSW) today.

The 28-year-old, originally from Mairangi Bay SLSC in Auckland, was leading after the Ski and Board, but couldn’t hold out the round 2 series winner, Georgia Miller and round 1 series winner Lizzie Welborn, in the swim leg who joined her on the podium in first and second respectively.

McKenzie has moved up to fourth place in the overall Series standings as we reach the half-way mark of the six-event series.

“We haven’t done a format like this in a very long time, alternating the men and women, so there’s actually quite a lot of downtime in between races and I think that worked out well for me today, I just felt stronger and stronger through each race,” she said.

“We’ve done three rounds now in this series, and I’ve improved each round, so I’m really looking forward to tomorrow, and another podium finish would be pretty awesome.

“A huge thank you to all the Kiwis back home supporting on Sky Sport New Zealand, it’s a fantastic opportunity to watch this event live and I hope to see some of the young guns racing here in the future.”

Fellow NZ Ironwoman Olivia Corrin finished in 15th. In the men's race, New Zealand Ironman Joe Collins crossed the line in sixth, followed by World Ironman champion and NZ athlete Cory Taylor in seventh. Continuing his debut season, Nutri-Grain Ironman Tom Scott finished 15th.

NEW ZEALAND’S MCKENZIE THIRD AGAIN, WITH COLLINS FIFTH AT NUTRI-GRAIN IRONWOMAN AND IRONMAN SERIES ROUND FOUR IN SYDNEY

New Zealander Danielle McKenzie (Northcliffe) has backed up Saturday's podium performance, with another third place finish in round four of the 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series season at Maroubra Beach (NSW).

While Georgia Miller won her third consecutive event, the minor placings were a tussle on the finish line, with McKenzie securing a podium result after a tight finish between her, Courtney Hancock and Lucy Derbyshire

Her consistent form across the weekend has cemented her third place ranking in the overall Nutri-Grain Ironwoman Series leader board, heading into the final two rounds next month.

The 28-year-old, originally from Mairangi Bay SLSC in Auckland, said she was happy with her performance, despite the struggle over the line.

“Another three races today, they were a little bit shorter, a little bit tougher... so just really getting those skills together are really going to get you over the line,” she said.

“There was a little bit of chaos [on the finishing line], a little bit of shoulders thrown, but we're all friends at the end of the day and everyone wants to win, so you have to do what you have to do to get across the line.”

Fellow NZ Ironwoman Olivia Corrin also advanced through to the top-8 final round, placing 7th.

In the men's race, New Zealand Ironman Joe Collins moved up to fifth place today and currently sits fourth in the overall Series standings. Continuing his debut season, Nutri-Grain Ironman Tom Scott finished 11th, and fellow Kiwi Cory Taylor placed 13th.
