Clareburt Withdraws From Black Fins

Friday, 9 September 2022

Commonwealth Games champion swimmer Lewis Clareburt has been forced out of the upcoming Surf Lifesaving World Championships due to injury.

Clareburt was looking to continue his year of success by donning the Black Fins cap for the first time since 2017. But he will now stay in New Zealand to rehabilitate and recover.

The Black Fins selectors have subsequently convened and have named Mairangi Bay’s Fergus Eadie as the new team member to join the Black Fins team for the World Championships.

“It’s an extremely unfortunate situation for Lewis right now and the team is gutted for him,” Black Fins captain Steve Kent says.

“Our High Performance Programme is designed so that other athletes can step up in situations like this and have the skills to be world class.

“Aided by our strong Black Fins values and culture, we will be able to help Fergus be the best he can be so we can all perform our best as a team in Italy.”

The World Championships get underway in Riccione, Italy on September 27.
