2022 bp Surf Rescue South Island Championships takes place with perfect conditions

Monday, 21 March 2022

The 2022 bp Surf Rescue South Island Championships went ahead at Waikouaiti Beach with perfect conditions this Saturday.

Luke Smith, Surf Life Saving NZ Southern Region Sport Manager says, “We couldn’t have asked for a better day of racing! The conditions were excellent and there was some extremely competitive racing throughout the categories. It was awesome to see volunteer lifeguards from throughout the Southern Region be able to put their hours of training to the test and show off the skills they have been working on.”

He adds, “A special mention is needed for all of our volunteer officials and event water safety for putting on such an efficient event, and all the coaches and managers who were extremely adaptive to all the various Covid protection measures we had to work within to ensure we could get this event happening.”

St Kilda SLSC took out first place in the club rankings, followed by Sumner SLSC in second place and St Clair SLSC coming in third. A huge congratulations to the winners, a great day’s competition was had by all!
