Surf Life Saving NZ Acknowledges Fatality at Cochrane’s Gap, Kariaotahi, Waiuku

After patrol hours on the evening of Friday the 7th of January 2022, the Police Maritime Unit advised SurfCom that a man was missing in the water close to the Kariaotahi Surf Life Saving Club.

Lifeguards from the Kariaotahi Search and Rescue Squad searched for the missing person from the 7th to the 10th of January 2022. The person was located at Cochrane’s Gap and recovered by the lifeguards on Tuesday, 11th January.

We are deeply saddened by yet another fatality this summer and offer our condolences to the family and friends of the man who are grieving his loss.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand thanks the lifeguards from the Kariaotahi Search and Rescue Squad, the Police and the Police Eagle Helicopter for their sustained efforts to recover the man.
