SLSNZ Acknowledges Fatality at Mangawhai Heads

Monday, 10 January 2022

On the 4th January 2022, SurfCom was notified by St John Ambulance following reports of a woman being pulled from the water at the inner estuary by the Mangawhai Heads campground and bystanders conducting CPR on the person.

Mangawhai Heads lifeguards were tasked to respond to the inner estuary for medical response. The lifeguards launched an Inflatable Rescue Boat and arrived at the estuary, where they located the woman and performed CPR until a St Johns Ambulance Paramedics arrived.

Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of the woman who died at this difficult time.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand would also like to thank the Mangawhai Heads lifeguards and the St Johns, Fire and Rescue, Police and members of the public involved.
