The Wāhine on Water initiative aims to get more female lifeguards trained up to crew and drive inflatable rescue boats (IRBs). The programme pairs less experienced lifeguards with an experienced female IRB mentor, and the events give women an opportunity to expand their boat experience in a supportive, relaxed and fun environment. Read more...While keeping our beaches safe some Surf Life Saving Clubs have to operate under challenging circumstances, without fully functioning clubhouses or patrol facilities. Storm damage, coastal erosion and financial circumstances are all factors that can impact the state of club property. A recent competition run by Surf Life Saving New Zealand partner, TSB, came to the assistance of clubs in need of somewhere to run their life-saving operations.

Located approximately one kilometre from the shore, the island is a dormant volcano with its crater filled with water.
