Surf Life Saving New Zealand Acknowledges Fatality at Waiwhakaiho River, New Plymouth

On the 13th of November 2021, volunteer Taranaki Surf Lifeguards from the Taranaki Search & Rescue Squad were called to the Waiwhakaiho River, which was subject to heavy flow due to recent heavy rainfall.

Lifeguards assisted the Police with a search for a young male who had sadly passed away in the river.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the young man’s family & friends during this very difficult time.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand thanks the Taranaki volunteer Surf Lifeguards and Police involved in the search and acknowledges the care and guidance provided by the Ngāti Tawhirikura Hapū members at this time.
