Surf Life Saving New Zealand acknowledges death at Te Waha Point, Auckland

Friday, 1 November 2019

On the evening of Monday, October 28, 2019 a woman fell into the water at Te Waha Point, North Piha Beach, West Auckland.

The incident occurred outside of normal Surf Life Saving patrol hours. Emergency services, including Volunteer Surf Lifeguards from United North Piha Lifeguard Service were called to search for the woman until light failed.

The search resumed at first light the next day and the crew in the Police Eagle helicopter located a body near Whites Beach.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand’s Coastal Safety team is now working with emergency services to conduct an investigation to find out what happened and why.

Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this time.
