Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) is saddened to advise that long-time member Mark Pickett has passed away.

Mark has a long history with the organisation, first joining Waikanae Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) in 1953 as a Club Cadet. He then gained his Surf Medallion qualification in 1956 and was the Club Captain from 1963-1969.

He was also one of the club's first Nipper instructors when the programme was established, and competed at SLSNZ championships for 14 years, gaining a total of 19 New Zealand medals in the process. Mark was also a member of Lyall Bay SLSC for a brief period in 1965.

Everyone at SLSNZ passes on their sincere condolences to Mark's friends, family and everyone who knew him at this difficult time.
