Tauranga City Council supports DHL International Surf Rescue Challenge

Monday, 30 October 2017

Surf Life Saving New Zealand is pleased to have the support of Tauranga City Council in delivering the DHL International Surf Rescue Challenge this November.

Held every two years, the beach competition is a gathering of the world's top lifesavers that will be held at Mount Maunganui, one of New Zealand's most popular beaches.

"An active outdoor lifestyle and an affinity with the ocean are values shared by the people of Tauranga and the surf lifesaving community, making the city a natural location for this event," says Gareth Wallis, Manager City Events for Tauranga City Council.

"With amazing beaches, friendly locals, great shopping and a wide variety of entertainment and hospitality options, Tauranga will be a great destination for competitors and support crew this summer," he says.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand Sport Manager Mike Lord says Mount Maunganui is an easy choice when it comes to selecting a venue for surf lifesaving carnivals.

"It's one of our most popular beaches with its beauty and amenity enjoyed by lifesaving competitors alongside locals and visitors. We're proud to have the opportunity to host this international event at the Mount and we look forward to showcasing it to the seven nations that are taking part," he says.
