Praise from SLSNZ and DHL this National Volunteer Week

Tuesday, 13 June 2017

Surf Life Saving New Zealand, with the support of DHL, is saying thanks to its volunteers this National Volunteer Week (NVW) by offering members the chance to attend an All Blacks Captain's Run.

DHL is the sponsor of the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017 and as a thank you to Surf Life Saving members for delivering safer beaches over the season, they have offered up 150 places for the All Blacks Captain's Run on the afternoon of Friday June 23 at Eden Park.

The Captain's Run is the last practice the All Blacks go through at the game venue prior to each test. It is not open to the public and it will provide these lucky members with an interesting insight into their final preparations.

Mark Foy, Country Manager for DHL Express New Zealand, says "DHL is incredibly proud of the work Surf Life Saving New Zealand volunteers undertake throughout the season. We're pleased to thank members via another great partnership, the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017, and look forward to hosting 150 representatives at the All Blacks Captain's Run before the first Test match."

NVW is coordinated by Volunteering New Zealand and is celebrated annually in New Zealand during the third week of June. This year it is from June 18-24.

This year's theme 'Live, laugh, share- volunteer' or 'Kia ringa hora: Me mahi tūao' helps capture the heart-felt appreciation we feel when people come together to build stronger, more vibrant, communities through volunteer service.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand CEO Paul Dalton says NVW is a fantastic chance to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions given by our thousands of volunteer lifeguards and club administrators around the country.

"We would be lost without our volunteers; they are the lifeblood of our organisation but as a charity, there are limited ways to show our appreciation. We are grateful to DHL for extending this offer to our members as a way to say thanks," he says.
