NZ team arrives in Japan ahead of Sanyo Cup
Thursday, 22 June 2017The New Zealand team has settled in nicely after a long trip to Japan for this year's Sanyo Cup.
The group of 10 athletes, with coach Danny Morrison and manager Steve Vaughan, departed from Auckland on Tuesday evening and faced a 12.5 hour trip to Shanghai and then on to Fukuoka.
They arrived at midday yesterday and were welcomed by their hosts and whisked off to their hotel before heading off for a team swim and scoping out the area.
Mr Vaughan says the sun is out, the venue looks awesome and the team is feeling pumped.
"Everyone is ready to get stuck into the next few days," he says.
They had their first team dinner at a very authentic Japanese restaurant last night and today, they have come together for breakfast ahead of a training session and some team building activities. They will then be moving to a new hotel and getting into another training session.
"It's going to be a busy day," he says.
Racing begins on Saturday and continues through Sunday.
