Surf Life Saving New Zealand lifesaving and education manager Allan Mundy says some small changes have been made to the delivery of the programme this year.

Last year, the candidates were broken into Northern-Eastern and Central-Southern regional groups and took part in three workshops each.

This year, all of the 18 candidates will take part in three workshops together in Wellington. They will be held from June 11-12, July 9-10 and August 20-22.

"This has a number of advantages such as helping to cut back on some of our costs and it will also allow the candidates to get to know one another better," he says.

Part of Surf Life Saving's partnership with Zespri, which was formed in February, sees a number of scholarships available for the BP Leaders for Life programme each year to cover the user-pays component of the course cost.

We're pleased to confirm the three Eastern Region candidates (Jessica Blair, Kate Boersen and Daniel Gordon) are the recipients of this year's Zespri scholarships and Zespri will cover the cost of them attending this course.

The purpose of the BP Leaders for Life is to enhance the ability of current and emerging leaders within the Surf Life Saving community to make a real difference to their clubs and across the wider organisation.

BP Communications Manager Shelley Brady says the programme continues to get better every year and the feedback from both participants and clubs has been really positive.

"We hope the next round of candidates get as much value out of it as others have in the past," she says.
