St Clair retains South Island IRB title

St Clair successfully retained their title of top IRB club in the South Island at the BP Surf Rescue South Island Championships yesterday.

The Dunedin club finished on 60 points ahead of Christchurch's Sumner Surf Life Saving Club on 41. St Kilda took out the third club spot with 26 points.

Close to 100 athletes took part in the event that was to be held at Warrington Beach but, due to the conditions, was moved to the Northern end of Waikouaiti Beach.

This weekend's BP Surf Rescue South Island Champs was the next step in the pathway towards the BP Surf Rescue New Zealand Championships, AKA the national IRB champs, which will be held at Papamoa from April 2-3.
