Testing conditions made for some tough racing at the third round of the New Surf Boat Series at Waihi yesterday.

The North Beach Beavers (Frano Staub, Louise Kimbers, Nathan Keys, Nared Glue, Dean Isherwood, Dave Pipe) took out the Open Men's win ahead of the New Brighton Killa Bees and the Red Beach Boomers.

While in the Open Women's competition, the Piha Pearls crew of Erin Tolhurst, Mariksa Visser, Charlotte Sue Haskell, Carmel Tolhurst and Mark Bourneville (sweep) took first place with Paekakariki Ranu in second and the Muriwai Maine Coons in third.

The Under 23 division saw the TItahi Bay Timders take out the women's title with Red Beach Pirates taking the men's.

The Mad Dogs took another win for TItahi Bay in the Under 19 men's and the Red Beach Angels taking out the women's title.

In the Men's Masters, Westshore SLSC's crew of Daniel Murfitt, Eric Forster, Jamie Thompson, Rob Robinson and Aidan Charman took the win ahead of Omanu and East End.

The Dan Harris Champion of Champions open event today allowed 30 crews to test themselves against the best. Races were run as a short course through heats and a finals round to see the New Brighton Killa Bees being named the Champion of Champions crew. They were followed by North Beach in second with Sunset Beach in third.

The fourth and final round of the New Zealand Surf Boat Sereis, the Piha Big Wave Classic 'Day of Giants' will take place on February 27.
