Muriwai surf boat team to represent New Zealand

Tuesday, 2 February 2016

Surf Life Saving New Zealand is pleased to announce the open women's surf boat crew that has been selected to represent New Zealand at the Australian Surf Rowers League Open next month.

The Muriwai Volunteer Lifeguard Service crew of Jessica Parkin, Lisa McCallum, Nicole Owen and Louise Ayling were selected following the Eastern Regional Championships at Mount Maunganui over the weekend. The crew, who will be swept by Ricky Butt, will be known as the Oar Blacks.

They join the Titahi Bay men's team who were selected following the second round of the New Zealand Surf Boat Series in Whangamata on January 2. The panel of judges had deferred their decision on the open women's team pending further judging.

The Muriwai and Titahi Bay open crews will also be joined by two development teams consisting of athletes under 23 years of age, from Titahi Bay (women's) and Whangamata (men's).

The ASRL Open will take place at Shellharbour in New South Wales on February 19-21.
