Injury rules Peat out of European pool competitions

Tuesday, 20 October 2015

Injury has ruled Natalie Peat out of next month's European pool competitions, the Orange and German Cups.

The Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club member has had to withdraw due to a foot injury sustained at last month's International Surf Rescue Challenge.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand Sport manager Mike Lord says her injury has progressed slower than hoped.

"Our medical team, along with Natalie, agree it is too risky for her to try and put a fin on that foot in the next month so she has made the decision to pull out. Obviously this is a very tough decision for her as she was hoping that it would have improved in time for the trip."

She will not be replaced, leaving seven athletes in the team to represent New Zealand.

The team will depart on November 12 with coach Steven Ferguson and team manager Mark Weatherall.

The Orange Cup, formally known as the BeNe Cup, will be held from November 14-15 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium in the Netherlands, the official pool venue for the 2016 Lifesaving World Championships.

The German Cup will then be held in Warendorf, Germany from November 20-21.
