Local lifeguards recognised at Taranaki Awards of Excellence

Surf lifeguards who patrol Taranaki's beaches have been honoured for their hard work and dedication to saving lives at the 2015 Taranaki Awards of Excellence.

The celebration of surf lifesaving took place at The Devon Hotel and Conference Centre on Saturday night.

One of the night's top awards, Volunteer of the Year, was awarded to Vaughan Garrett from New Plymouth Old Boys. Lifeguard of the Year was awarded to Scott Busing from East End Surf Life Saving Club and Club of the Year was awarded to Fitzroy Surf Life Saving Club.

Surf Life Saving Clubs in the Taranaki area include Fitzroy, East End, New Plymouth Old Boys and Opunake. Together, they undertook 41 rescues in the 2014-15 season.
