Warrington to host South Island IRB Championships

Tuesday, 3 March 2015

Around 30 crews are set to descend on the beautiful beach of Warrington this weekend for the BP Surf Rescue South Island IRB Championships.

Crews from North Beach, Sumner and St Clair Surf Life Saving Clubs will all be trying to see if they can take out the title of Top IRB Club in the South Island away from St Kilda Surf Life Saving Club.

But event manager Scotty Roberts says it will be a hard job to do. "The championships are sure to be a great day of fast and exhilarating racing from some of the best IRB racers in the county.

"The event will also double as a warmup for many of the crews ahead of the BP Surf Rescue New Zealand IRB National Champs, that will also be held at Warrington, on the weekend of March 27-29," he says.

Racing starts at 9am on Saturday, with competition in single rescue, assembly rescue, tube rescue, mass rescue and teams divisions.
