Mount Maunganui wins Eastern Region pool champs title

Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service took out the 2015 Eastern Region Pool Championships title at Te Rapa Waterworld in Hamilton over the weekend.

The Bay of Plenty club finished with 318 points ahead of Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club with 242 points followed by Mairangi Bay in third with 123 points. Piha (68) and Whakatane (48) rounded out the top five.

Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club took out the 2015 Eastern Region Pool Championships Masters title.

Eastern Region Sport Manger Mark Inglis says it was a fantastic weekend full of fast and competitive racing.

"There were some stand out performances across the two days of racing and it was a fantastic way to kick off the 2015/16 season, he says.

"A special thanks to all the officials, timekeepers, water safety helpers, team managers, coaches and volunteers who helped make it a successful event."
