Kiwis ready for rounds 3 and 4 of Ironman Series

Thursday, 17 December 2015

New Zealand's surf lifesaving stars will take on Rounds Three and Four of the prestigious Nutri-Grain Ironman Series at Newcastle Beach in New South Wales this weekend.

Midway's Cory Taylor, Omanu's Max Beattie and Mairangi Bay's Danielle McKenzie created history when they qualified for the series back in September. Never before has New Zealand had three athletes taking part in the same series.

They all put in top efforts in the first two rounds of the series that were held in Queensland last month to put them in steady positions leading into this weekend.

Max is sitting in sixth place on the Men's leader board with Cory in 13th. Shannon Eckstein, Matt Bevilacqua and Ali Day are sitting in the top three spots.

In the women's, Danielle is in 14th and Jordan Mercer, Liz Pluimers and Harriet Brown are in the top three.

Following the last two rounds, New Zealand team coach Jason Pocock said Cory, Max and Danielle all raced extremely well and showed a good understanding of their skills.

"This weekend, they'll take their key learnings from their last two rounds and look to build on their positions heading into the final two rounds of the series," he says.

The series is made up of six rounds. The final two rounds will be held at North Cronulla Beach in New South Wales from January 16-17.
