Injury rules Kelsi Boocock out of Youth team for Rescue 2014

Tuesday, 16 September 2014

Injury has ruled Kelsi Boocock out of the Youth Team competition for Rescue 2014, the Lifesaving World Championships.

The Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club member has had to withdraw due to an ankle fracture creating a last minute change to the team line up.

She will be replaced by fellow Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club athlete Madison Kidd.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand Sport Manager Mike Lord says he was notified late last night that Kelsi had injured her foot during training.

"Doctors confirmed that she had fractured her foot in two places and she has had a cast applied to set the fracture, he says.

"This has clearly, and unfortunately, ruled her out of the Youth competition."

Mr Lord says a number of eligible athletes were considered as a replacement and after consultation with the New Zealand selectors Jonelle Quane, Jason Pocock, Duane Dalton, Scott Bartlett and NZ Youth Team Coach Kurt Wilson, it was unanimously agreed that Madison Kidd was the preferred replacement for Kelsi.

Madison will now join the New Zealand Youth Team in the competition which begins tomorrow night (New Zealand time).

"Kelsi will stay on in a support role for her fellow NZ Youth team mates but as you can imagine, she is gutted by the injury, says Mr Lord.

"We appreciate Madison joining the team at such late notice and we are confident that she is in top form to head straight in to competition."

This change comes a little over a week after injury ruled Midway's Devon Halligan out of the NZ Team, also due to an ankle injury.
