First BP Leaders for Life workshop a great success
Thursday, 22 May 2014The 2014 BP Leaders for Life programme kicked-off in Wellington over the weekend with the first round of workshops involving candidates from the Central and Southern regions.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand Member Development Manager Belinda Slement says there is a great mixture and cross-section of leaders in this group who are all very keen and really enjoyed the weekend.
A key highlight for the candidates was having their team management personal profiles completed on themselves which involves all the candidates completing an online questionnaire to identify key work preference areas, she says.
"The profile is a starting point for consideration and discussion of how they approach their work and their interactions with team members and other people within their club. When learning how to better interact and deal with others, we first have to learn about ourselves," she says.
Belinda says another highlight was having SLSNZ Chairman Geoff Hamilton talk to the candidates about why leadership is important for the organisation. "They discussed why leadership is important at SLSNZ, what sort of leadership we need, challenges we face over the next ten years and what we are looking for in our young, emerging leaders, " she says.
The 2014 BP Leaders for Life is part of a national strategy to support a wide range of development activity for members right across the Surf Life Saving community.
The purpose of the BP Leaders for Life is to enhance the ability of current and emerging leaders within the Surf Life Saving community to make a real difference to their clubs and across the wider organisation.
Thirty two candidates are included in the 2014 programme and combined workshops will be held in Wellington for the Central and Southern regions, and in Auckland for the Eastern and Northern regions.
The next workshop is being held in Auckland this weekend (May 24-25) with candidates from the Northern and Eastern regions. The workshops will continue to run through until mid-August.
