Surf Sports Blue Sky Review Stage One survey results

Friday, 13 June 2014

Results from Stage One of the Surf Sports Blue Sky Review are in, with 66 of our 74 clubs providing feedback.

All 10 stakeholder groups indicated a preference to proceed with an evolutionary approach to Stage Two which means making some changes to address the issues raised, but retaining the existing structure. A summary of results and a document outlining full results for clubs and individual members can be found here.

The next step is to review the Current State Summary and Stage One Report and provide feedback by 5pm on Sunday June 22. The key components of this report are:

• Current state of surf sports
• Issues with surf sports
• Stage One survey results
• Stage Two overview
• Review of the current SLSNZ Sports Strategy

Once this document is finalised, a final version will be distributed to clubs and updated on the SLSNZ website. Click here to download the draft document.

The purpose of Stage Two will be to consult with the Surf Life Saving community to gather content for a new SLSNZ Sports Strategy and discover ideas to resolve the identified issues. This will be done via a series of workshops and another online survey. The workshops will be held throughout the country in June and July.

Club workshops: the aim will be to determine what success will look like in 2020, the pillars that need to be included in the next sports strategy, priorities for SLSNZ and the resources required to deliver.

Athlete workshops: these will focus on what athletes want from events and pathways and involve a selection of athletes from a variety of backgrounds.

Officials and coaching workshops: there will be at least one workshop for each of these groups and these will focus on pathways and information for the new SLSNZ Sports Strategy.

Ideas from these workshops will also contribute content for the new SLSNZ Sports Strategy and ideas to address the current issues. A full list of workshop venues and dates can be found here.
