Condolences over the passing of young clubbie

Tuesday, 3 June 2014

Surf Life Saving New Zealand was saddened to learn of the passing of a young Taylors Mistake Surf Life Saving Club member over the long weekend.

Twelve year-old Abigail "Abi" Hone died in a tragic car accident on Saturday alongside her best friend and former club member Ella Summerfield and Ella's mother Sally. They were struck by another motorist in Rakaia. Ella's father Shane, who was driving, was seriously injured and is in hospital.

Abi was a junior surf member and the Hone family have been heavily involved in the club including helping out with the lifeguarding and rookie programmes as well as building projects and working bees. Both families are well-known and loved in their community.

The wider Surf Life Saving family has been devastated by this news and sends our thoughts and deepest sympathies to the Hone and Summerfield families, their friends and fellow clubbies at this very sad time.

Any funeral arrangements are yet to be confirmed.
