Clubbies compete at the Commonwealth Games

Tuesday, 22 July 2014

Surf Life Saving New Zealand would like to wish the best of luck to its club members who are taking part in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

There are six current club members who will be representing New Zealand in swimming at the games being held in Glasgow, Scotland beginning this Wednesday.

They include Samantha Lee (Lyall Bay), Natasha Hind (Lyall Bay), Steven Kent (Titahi Bay), Laura Quilter (Wainui), Dylan Dunlop-Barrett (New Plymouth Old Boys) and Emma Robinson (Lyall Bay).

Surf Life Saving New Zealand Sport Manager Mike Lord says surf lifesaving has proven to be a great grounding for many athletes who have gone on to represent their country on the world stage in other water-based sports and these athletes competing at the Commonwealth Games is another great example of the talent we have within our membership.

"For Samantha, Natasha, Laura and Steven, the games are also a great opportunity to compete on an international stage ahead of the Lifesaving World Championships in France this September.

"It's a great honour to take part in the Commonwealth Games and we look forward to following all of our clubbies' journeys throughout the event," he says.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games is taking place from July 23- August 3.
