Surf Life Saving and Thrifty Car Rental Partnership Activation

Monday, 20 January 2014

A free activation for the general public is being held in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter on Wednesday in celebration of a long-term partnership between Thrifty Car Rental and Surf Life Saving New Zealand.

Lifeguards will be on site at Karanga Plaza, by the tidal stairs, from 12pm-1.30pm. Come and check it out for your chance to win special Thrifty offers including weekend rentals and discount fuel vouchers.

In-water tube rescue demonstrations will also take place by the tidal stairs at 12.15pm, 12.45pm, and 1.15pm, highlighting the skill used by volunteer lifeguards when saving people's lives on our beaches.

Thrifty and Surf Life Saving announced their partnership in December. As part of the partnership, Thrifty will supply SLSNZ with nine 4WD vehicles. The vehicle donation will allow SLSNZ to redirect over $100,000 towards training lifeguards and supporting Surf Life Saving Clubs nationwide to save more lives.

The partnership will also see Thrifty help raise much-needed funds for Surf Life Saving through internal fundraising events, providing special car rental offers to Surf Life Saving Clubs and members, and supporting Surf Life Saving's Summer and Winter Appeals.

As a charity organisation, Surf Life Saving relies on the public's support to fund this essential rescue service to help keep people safe on New Zealand's beaches.

Thrifty NZ General Manager Emma Gardiner said the partnership is a great fit for two high profile brands that are committed to helping local communities across the country. "Not only will this partnership allow us to help a wonderful cause, but it's our chance to proactively give back to the communities and customers we serve in a really meaningful way," she said.

SLSNZ CEO Paul Dalton said he's thrilled to partner with such a reputable brand "This is a really exciting opportunity for Surf Life Saving and with Thrifty's strong focus on public and staff safety, it's fantastic we can unite our brands to help save more lives during what is likely to be another bumper season," he said.

Media are invited to attend the activation on Wednesday January 22 between 12pm-1.30pm. To register your interest and to reserve your media pack, please RSVP to SLSNZ Media & Communications Specialist Lisa Honeybone on 0276-488-823 or email lisa.honeybone@surflifesaving.org.nz.

Editor's note:

Surf Life Saving is an essential rescue service as well as a charity and we need the public's support to raise money to help lifeguards save more lives on New Zealand's beaches this summer.
