Do you have valuable skills to help clubs in an hour of need?

Friday, 17 January 2014

Surf Life Saving New Zealand is putting together a list of people who are willing and able to assist clubs with their specialist skills on a 'one-off' basis, if and when the need arises and they have the time.

Rather than an on-going commitment to a committee-style role, this aims to have a pool of skilled specialists (such as tradespeople, architects, HR specialists, IT specialists, accountants, trailer builders, lawyers etc) who would be happy to assist clubs with advice if they had a need for information in their specialist subject area.

For example, a club may need some legal advice on how to deal with a neighbour trying to restrict access to the clubrooms, or technical advice on what the best security system is for their location.  They don't want on-going help but want honest and accurate information from someone familiar with Surf Life Saving.

SLSNZ would facilitate any contact so nobody is deluged with requests for help, and there is no obligation created - if people are too busy at a particular time then that is absolutely fine!  Any restrictions on geography or other factors are also fine. It is intended to be a flexible arrangement - so people can come in and out of the 'pool' as they want.

It also does not need to be on a gratis basis - if people want to charge for their services that can be noted and clubs made aware of that option - and logically, what may start out as some advice on a particular matter, may then move into a piece of work (e.g. advice on a repair may lead to a building job).
