Wellington Phoenix press release
This weekend Wellington Phoenix fans will get the chance to literally take the shirt off their favourite players' back.
Sunday 16 February's A-League game against Melbourne Heart is the annual adidas/Wellington Phoenix Charity Match with this year's proceeds going to Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ).
SLSNZ is a not for profit organisation that protects you and your community in the water. Every year, Surf Life Saving patrols over 80 beaches, visits over 450 schools to teach Kiwi kids how to stay safe at our favourite playground and makes more than 1,200 rescues. Over the years, thousands of people have been given a second chance at life, thanks to surf lifeguards. Without the support of donors and partners, this vital work would not be possible.
Last year the Phoenix raised almost $20,000 for the Life Flight Trust, and this year we want to raise even more.
The Phoenix will again be playing in a fully customised one-of-a-kind adidas strip. Nine charity strip options were designed by Jeremy Brockie, Leo Bertos, Andrew Durante, Carlos Hernandez and Paul Ifill, with goalie Glen Moss designing Goalie strip options. Fans voted for their favourite strip through Facebook. You can view the video of the players designing their kits here.
Fan Patrick Barnes, picked the most popular playing and goalie strips and will receive his own strip, along with a VIP package to the game.
All of the game day playing shirts will be auctioned directly on TradeMe, with the auctions starting at halftime (5.50pm) on Sunday 16 February. All proceeds will go directly to Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
The unique Charity Strip was produced using adidas' online customisation tool at www.miteam.com. miTeam.com gives any team or player the ability to create their own customised playing or training kit.
The match kicks off at 5.00pm at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
