Rescue boat to be delivered to its new home

Thursday, 4 December 2014

Otaki Surf Life Saving Club will be officially presented with their brand new IRB from BP tomorrow thanks to the BP Click For Your Club competition.

BP launched the competition giving away two Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs) for the second year running, in recognition of the important role the rescue boats play in helping to save hundreds of lives across the country every year.

Otaki, along with fellow winners Brighton Surf Life Saving Club in Dunedin, managed to pull in nearly 30,000 online votes between them over the three weeks of the national competition, calling on community groups, schools, shops, and members of their community to show their support by voting for them online.

More than 50,000 votes were cast for all six finalists across the competition.

The new IRB will be officially presented to Otaki at 3pm tomorrow.

The Honourable Nathan Guy will be in attendance along with BP Corporate Affairs Manager Jonty Mills and Surf Life Saving New Zealand president Neale Ames.

A large number of Otaki Surf Life Saving Club members will also be in attendance and will get their new IRB out on the water for a test run.

Otaki volunteer lifeguard Nikki Lundie says the club is absolutely ecstatic to have won a new IRB. "Thanks to BP we are now better equipped to keep our awesome community safe over summer," she says.

Brighton Surf Life Saving Club will be formally presented with their new IRB by BP next Friday, December 12.
