Applications open for National Lifeguard SchoolWednesday, 9 October 2013
Applications are now open for Surf Life Saving New Zealand's National Lifeguard School (NLS) to be held on 14-16 December 2013.
To attend a National Lifeguard school you need to have the prerequisites listed below:
- SLSNZ Member
- Surf Lifeguard Award (refreshed)
- 17-years-old or above
- At least three seasons of active patrolling
- Senior Lifeguard Award - IRB Driver or IRB Driver Award (refreshed)
- Senior Lifeguard Award - Patrol Captain
- Marine VHF Radio Operators Qualification
- 800 metre pool swim in under 14 minutes
- First Aid Level 1 (current)
- First Aid Level 2 (current)
All National Lifeguard School candidates must have the required prerequisites completed before their application form can be submitted to Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
All applicants are to be advised that a high level of fitness and confidence in the surf environment is required to participate in all components of a National Lifeguard School.
National Lifeguard School applicant's will be required to demonstrate their ability to meet the required fitness standard. Candidates will be required to submit their current 800m pool swim time and 2km run time prior to the National Lifeguard School to ensure they meet the requirements of the school. These must be endorsed by a SLGA Examiner, Club official or CDO.
Please note, to achieve your Advanced Lifeguard Award you must successfully complete a National Lifeguard School with all the required prerequisites and also hold either a IRB Instructor or SLGA Instructor award.
Applications close at 5pm, Monday the 4 November 2013. Once applications close we will be in a position to name a venue for the school based on where the majority of applicants are from
