SLSNZ Sport Memo 17 July 2013

Wednesday, 17 July 2013

This memo contains important information regarding safety vests, IRB events, and bidding to host events in the 14/15 season.

Safety Vests

As you may be aware, high visibility vests will become mandatory at all events from 1 October, 2013.

We are currently working towards confirming a supplier option and brand guidelines for clubs; we hope to confirm this shortly, along with the colour and price of the vests.

In the meantime, it is important you understand two important pieces of information regarding safety vests:

(1)  Excluding pool-based competitions, it will be mandatory to wear high visibility vests in all competitions from 1 October 2013.

(2)  It is highly recommended that all members wear high visibility vests in training or activities in open water environments deeper than knee level.

Date change to North Island Surf Rescue Championships

We wold also like to remind you about the change to the North Island Surf Rescue Championships.

The date has changed from December 14-15, 2013 to December 7-8, 2013. This date change has been made so that the event doesn't clash with the Whangamata Classic which is scheduled for the same weekend. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Event Cancellation: Central Round of the BP Surf Rescue Series

The event that was scheduled to take place in the Taranaki on 11 January 2014 has been cancelled.

There is on-going work by the IRB Sport Advisory Group and the National Sport Committee regarding the immediate and long-term future of IRB events.

2014/15 bid process

If you club is interested in hosting a National event in the 2013/14 season, a bid process will commence in the next few months.

This only includes the 14/15 season, as a concurrent 'Blue Sky' review is taking place that may change the shape of our event calendar after this date.

I look forward to seeing you all on the beach this summer.
