New Year Honour for Waimairi lifeguard

Waimairi Surf Life Saving Club member Stephen Andrew Johnston has been awarded a Queen's Service Medal (QSM) for services to Surf Life Saving in the New Year Honours List for 2014, announced today.

Stephen is hugely proud of his 40 plus year involvement in Surf Life Saving.

He gained his lifeguard award in 1971 and has held numerous roles within the club during his time. He has also conducted over 100 rescues.

Stephen says he is incredibly humbled to receive the special honour.

"It's a huge pat on the back, not just for me, but for all lifeguards in Waimairi, Canterbury and all of New Zealand," he says.

Well done Stephen on this outstanding achievement.
