Halligan takes on next rounds of Nutri-Grain Iron Woman Series

Friday, 13 December 2013

New Zealand team member and Midway Surf Life Saving Club's Devon Halligan is hitting the beach this weekend for rounds three to five of the Nutri-Grain Iron Woman Series in New South Wales.

Devon was one of the top four women qualifiers for the series after the trials held at Salt Beach in Northern New South Wales from September 14-15.

The series is known for big wave locations and fast exhilarating racing. It's the second time Devon is taking part in the series and she is up against names such as two-time and current series champion Courtney Hancock along with Kristyl Smith and Liz Pluimers.

Devon had an unfortunate start to the series in rounds one and two which were held on November 30 and December 1 at Smiths Beach in Western Australia when an increased heart rate impacted on her performance.

She also encountered some health issues in last year's series and she had to withdraw from the competition after being diagnosed with myocarditis.

Devon is placed 11th heading into tomorrow's events.

The final round of the series will take place on February 23, 2014 at Coolum Beach on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
