Instructors Award - Rock Training

Course Overview

The Instructors Award - Rock Training, certifies that the holder has the  skills and knowledge to be an Instructor to deliver the Rock Training & Rescue Module. The qualification enables members to obtain relevant theory and practical skills about instruction and teaching to be utilised when training members in rock activities. 


Course Information 

Pre requistes

18 years of age
Current member of a SLS club
Surf Lifeguard Award (Refreshed)
Minimum 3 years active patrol experience, including relevant rock activity experience
Demonstrated competency of local beach, local drifts/currents/swells and rock conditions
Instructors Award - Surf Lifeguard or IRB
Attend a Rock Training and Rescue Instructors Course

Duration

Half Day (4-5 hrs) + onsite assessment

Outcomes

At the completion of the qualification candidates will be able to:

  1. Prepare for lessons and implement lesson plans and sequences
  2. Create a safe physical environment conducive to learning/training
  3. Communicate with candidates
  4. Identify and apply effective questioning techniques
  5. Identify, manage and assess Risk 
  6. Demonstrate practical ability to perform exam components of the module
  7. Prepare candidates for assessment

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Those leading, managing and instructing any rock activities must hold the SLSNZ Rock Instructors Award.  Rock Instructor Awards may be awarded by SLSNZ to individuals that have successfully demonstrated their competency to the standards required by SLSNZ in one of the following manners;

  1. Attendance at an approved SLSNZ Rock Instructors Course - Contact your regional Lifesaving or Club Development Manager

  2. Applied to SLSNZ for, and received recognition of prior learning (RPL). Rock Instructors Award RPL Application - Click here

  3. Demonstrated their competency during an onsite club rock activity assessment, which must be assessed by an approved SLSNZ Rock Instructor Assessor.
