Surf Life Saving New Zealand is Aotearoa's leading beach & coastal safety, drowning prevention and rescue authority.
We're truly unique, delivering proactive surf lifesaving & essential emergency rescue services, beach & coastal safety, a range of public education beach safety programmes, member education, training & development, and a highly respected sport. We do all of this as a charity.
SLSNZ is the national association representing 74 surf lifesaving clubs with 18,000+ members, including more than 5,000 volunteer Surf Lifeguards. Our lifeguards patrol more than 80 locations in summer and provide emergency call-out rescue services throughout Aotearoa, saving hundreds of lives each year and ensuring thousands return home safely after a day at the beach.
Even though our surf lifeguards save hundreds of people each year and there have been no fatal drownings between the flags, New Zealand's fatal drowning rate is still too high. We are committed to changing this. Our vision is that no one drowns on our beaches. It's what drives us.
