National Sport Committee (NSC)

The purpose of the National Sport Committee is to lead the growth of SLSNZ membership by developing pathways, programmes and events through Lifesaving Sport.

2025 Annual Report Committee Update

The National Sport Committee provides a forum for the membership and SLSNZ to work collaboratively to facilitate the development and delivery of lifesaving sport.

Over the past 18 months, the Committee has focused on improving processes and communication in relation to BAU activities such as the planning and review of national events and the appointment of officials and volunteers, as well as member engagement and consultation on key projects – the Sport Calendar Review and Refresh, the Awards of Excellence Review, updating the Competition Manual and aligning the Volunteer Committees Terms of Reference.

The progress and success of these activities has been achieved through high-level commitment from NSC members and SLSNZ staff to collaborate closely and regularly in the spirit of Kapa Kotahi.

Looking ahead, our priorities are to embed our existing workstreams into BAU tasks and continue to align closely with staff, clubs and local committees on upcoming projects, which include: renewing the Sport Strategy, future Nationals event dates and venues and creating Working Groups for member-identified initiatives.

I would like to thank the Committee Members for their dedication and commitment in helping shape a successful 2024/2025 year - Dion Williams (Eastern Region Rep), Isaac Davies (Southern Region Rep), Richie Whinham (Central Region Rep), Wayne Franich (Northern Region Rep), Hirata Titcombe (Independent), Joanne Miller (Independent) and Cam Burrow (SLSNZ Board). I look forward to working with the incoming Committee Members and SLSNZ Sport staff in continuing to drive the future success of our sport.
