National Lifesaving Committee (NLC)

Committee Update - SLSNZ Annual Report 2025

The National Lifesaving Committee acts as the custodians/kaitiaki of lifesaving, by providing volunteer oversight and voice, to ensure the needs of members are considered during the planning and delivery of lifesaving operations. The NLC re-formed in 2023 with a new structure and a refreshed motivation to make a difference in the lifesaving space.

Our initial focus as a group has been on creating a new workplan and a new fit-for-purpose Terms of Reference for the group, aligned with the other National Committees. Some of the initial projects off the workplan included the Patrol Captains Qualification review, and the establishment
of the national Paid Lifeguard Service (PLS) review.

Some of our upcoming work includes the progression of the PLS review, renewing our engagement pathways with our local and regional committees, reviewing the Refresher framework, and the implementation of a National Lifesaving Congress.

The National Lifesaving Committee 2023-2025 was represented by: Brianna Norris, Mike Smith, Ashleigh Hurring, Kate Suter, Nathan Berry, David Galuszka and Emma Sutherland (SLSNZ Board). And we are working closely with Andy Kent (SLSNZ GM Lifesaving).
