Creating New Fundraising Opportunities for Surf Life Saving Clubs
Helping Clubs Build a Sustainable Future
The Aon Club Referral Scheme represents a unique opportunity to strengthen the financial sustainability of Surf Life Saving clubs across New Zealand. By leveraging existing community connections, clubs can unlock a new source of fundraising revenue while continuing to focus on what they do best: saving lives and building safer communities.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand has partnered with Aon to launch the Aon Club Referral Scheme, a fundraising initiative designed to help clubs generate additional income through their existing member, supporter, and business networks.
The programme provides clubs with a simple and sustainable way to raise funds while helping community members and local businesses access trusted insurance and risk advice from Aon.
How the Scheme Works
Three simple steps turn a referral into funding for your club.
Refer a business to Aon
A club member, supporter, family member, volunteer, or local business refers new business to Aon by completing the quick online referral form at aon.co.nz/sls-referral.
The business nominates a club
As part of the referral, the business nominates their Surf Life Saving club — or Surf Life Saving New Zealand — to receive the contribution. Aon will then reach out to understand the business's specific risk and insurance needs.
Aon gives 15% back when they appoint
If the business decides to appoint Aon, we give 15% of our fee back to the nominated club. The more referrals a club generates, the greater the potential fundraising return.
Aon Gives 15% Back for Every Referral.
Refer new business to Aon and support your Surf Life Saving club. It's a simple way to give your business trusted insurance and risk advice from Aon, while helping to keep communities safe on beaches across Aotearoa.

Why This Matters
Surf Life Saving clubs play a vital role in keeping New Zealanders safe in and around the water. However, clubs continue to face increasing operational costs associated with:
- Lifesaving equipment
- Patrol operations
- Training and education
- Facility maintenance
- Member development
- Community programmes
The Aon Club Referral Scheme provides an additional funding stream that can help clubs invest in these critical areas while reducing reliance on traditional fundraising activities.
Clubs with strong local networks and business relationships may have the opportunity to generate even greater returns.
Who Can Participate?
Members, supporters, sponsors, and the wider community can all refer business to Aon.
The scheme is open to referrals from:
- Club members
- Parents and family members
- Supporters and sponsors
- Alumni and past members
- Volunteers
- Local businesses
- Community organisations
Every new business referral to Aon has the potential to contribute directly to the nominated club.
Support Available for Clubs
To help clubs maximise the opportunity, Surf Life Saving New Zealand will provide:
- Programme information and guidance
- Promotional resources and marketing materials
- Frequently asked questions
- Staff support through dedicated Aon Champions
- Ongoing communications and updates
Our goal is to make participation as simple and effective as possible for clubs of all sizes.
