Description

What is happening?
A missing persons at sea scenario is being held at The Rescue Centre to ensure Surf Lifesaving members understand the theory and procedures relating to a missing person at sea during a training session or event.

Why is it happening?
There is an ever-present risk that a person will go ‘missing’ at a club, regional or national event – be it training for junior surf, surf sports, oceans or surf lifesaving or a carnival or event at the club, region or national level; it is vital every club has a prepared response to this scenario. A missing person can happen incredibly fast and we all need to spring into action both immediately and in a coordinated manner to ensure the best possible outcomes.

It is recommended that everyone who is able to attends all sessions.
The theory session is especially relevant for Club Leaders, Junior Surf Coaches, Club staff, Committee representatives, Patrol Captains, Lifeguards, Surf Sport Coaches, Surf Sport competitors, Junior Surf parents, Team Managers

During the practical session there is a role for EVERYONE. Lifeguards, athletes and members who are competent swimmers will be required in the water and non-swimmers can take land based roles.
