<p>The Search and Rescue Summit combines dynamic theory sessions, sector-led operational reviews and presentations with several intensive practical and scenario-based activities. Participants will be extended both physically and mentally, and a good fitness level is required.</p> <p>The Summit will provide the participants with an excellent opportunity to network with SAR leaders within SLSNZ SAR and from supporting agencies from around the country, to take the learnings back to their respective squads in the regions with the flow-on effect of the latest SAR developments being passed onto the SAR back in each participant's clubs and squads.</p> <p><strong>SUMMIT INFORMATION</strong></p> <p>Pre-requisites: </p> <ul> <li>18 years of age as at 13 May 2022</li> <li>Current First Aid Level 1 &amp; 2</li> <li>Senior Lifeguard Award - Patrol Captain (only for those participating in water activities)</li> <li>CIMS Level 4 (for those participating in IMT activities)</li> <li>Marine VHF Radio Operators Certificate</li> <li>Current patrolling member of an SLS club</li> <li>Surf Lifeguard Award (refreshed)</li> <li>Patrol Support (refreshed) if attending as IMT only</li> <li>Swim 400 metres sub 9 minutes (only for those participating in water activities)</li> <li>Endorsement to attend from your Club Area SAR Coordinator or Club Chairperson</li> <li>Minimum 3 years patrolling experience, either as a Patrol Support or Lifeguard</li> </ul> <p>NOTES: all pre-requisites held must be refreshed where appropriate within 12 months prior to the course date (13 May 2022)</p> <ul> <li>All IRB participants must be refreshed drivers</li> <li>All IMT participants must have attended a CIMS level 4 course before the Summit.</li> </ul> <p>Duration: 2 ½ days (Friday 13 May – Sunday 15 May)<br>Delivered by: SLSNZ appointed presenters and mentors<br>Who should complete it: SAR Coordinators or senior SAR members interested in gaining further experience in Search and Rescue both on the water and within an Incident Management Team.</p> <p><strong>TOPICS COVERED</strong></p> <ol> <li>Review of the NSAR Standard Operating Procedures for SLSNZ and NZSAR</li> <li>Investigate the scope and operational limits of a SAR operation</li> <li>Technological advancements in Radio Communications for SAR</li> <li>Past SLSNZ SAR Operational Reviews</li> <li>Risk assessments and Hazard Identification in a SAR deployment</li> <li>Apply Dynamic Risk Management techniques within a tasking </li> <li>Investigate engagement strategies for local multi-agency collaboration</li> <li>Intelligence gathering for Police during a search</li> <li>Search patterns for multiple craft</li> <li>Multi-Agency operation in a SLSNZ context</li> <li>CIMS model to manage an MSAR operation</li> <li>Apply a CIMS model to manage an ICP in a MSAR operation for a multi-agency incident</li> </ol> <p><strong>OUTCOMES</strong></p> <p>After the Summit, participants will be able to:</p> <ol> <li>Develop a deeper understanding of the NSOPS for SLSNZ and NZSAR</li> <li>Develop an understanding of radio communications within SAR</li> <li>Investigate the scope and operational limits of a SAR</li> <li>Understand the requirement of the SAR team members for early deployment</li> <li>Experience the application of search patterns for multiple craft</li> <li>Identify the requirements for a deceased person's recovery</li> <li>Investigate engagement strategies for local multi-agency collaboration</li> <li>Understand the requirements of the SAR team members for early deployment</li> <li>Work through a Multi-Agency operation in a SLSNZ context</li> <li>Apply Operational Risk Assessment within a tasking</li> <li>Apply a CIMS model to manage an MSAR operation for a multi-agency operation</li> <li>Perform set tasks defined by CIMS in an IMT</li> <li>Understand intelligence required, for Police during a search that may use in an operational debrief and for a coronial review</li> </ol> <p><strong>MENTORS &amp; INSTRUCTORS</strong></p> <p>A mentor's key role is to pass on their knowledge and guide guards through their experiences. Mentors will be heavily involved, being the first port-of-call for participants if they are having any issues, supporting presenters during activities, being the mentor for a designated group of participants for the duration of the School and helping manage the health and safety of all involved during all activities. Search and Rescue Summit presenters &amp; instructors will be selected for a minimum of 1 season term. The 1 season term takes effect for any new presenters selected for the 2021/2022 season.</p> <p>For more information about the Mentor/Instructor roles at the SAR Summit, download the <a href="/media/995655/slsnz-search-and-rescue-summit-mentorsinstructors-gm.pdf" title="SAR Summit - Mentor/Instructor Information">Mentor/Instructor Information</a> (pdf)</p> <p><strong>APPLICATION PROCESS – COURSE CANDIDATES</strong></p> <p>Applications Open: Wednesday 15 December 2021<br>Applications Close: Thursday 10 March 2022<br>Course Costs: $400.00</p> <p>There are 20 positions available.
