<p><strong style="line-height: 1.4em;">Applications open 1<sup>st</sup> October 2019</strong></p> <p>National Lifeguard Schools are something that lifeguards aspire to. They combine dynamic theory sessions with a number of intensive practical and scenario based activities extending participants both physically and mentally - honing already advanced skills.</p> <p>If you successfully complete a National Lifeguard School with all the required prerequisites you will be awarded your Advanced Lifeguard Award - the highest award for surf lifeguards in New Zealand.</p> <p><strong>The role of an Advanced Lifeguard </strong></p> <p>An Advanced Lifeguard should be able to demonstrate leadership, experience and capability, specifically:</p> <ul> <li>Cope with a variety of complex situations</li> <li>Demonstrate good communication and leadership skills</li> <li>Experience working with and knowledge of stake holders and other external agencies</li> <li>Demonstrate physical competencies</li> <li>Slot in at any beach as a Patrol Captain</li> <li>Demonstrate or utilise those with advanced skills appropriately</li> <li>Demonstrate high levels of fitness</li> <li>Draw on experience and expertise </li> </ul> <p><strong>Areas of Learning</strong></p> <p>The National Lifeguard School programme covers areas of learning such as: </p> <ul> <li>SLSNZ structure and purpose </li> <li>Leadership and team work </li> <li>Advanced First Aid/patient treatment and care </li> <li>Risk management, crisis management and scene management </li> <li>Search and rescue </li> <li>Rock navigation</li> </ul> <p><strong>How do I become an Advanced Lifeguard?</strong></p> <p>To achieve your Advanced Lifeguard Award you must successfully complete a National Lifeguard School with all the required prerequisites. <br />The prerequisites are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>SLSNZ Member</li> <li>Surf Lifeguard Award (refreshed)</li> <li>18 years old or above</li> <li>At least three seasons of active patrolling</li> <li>Senior Lifeguard Award - IRB Driver or IRB Driver Award (refreshed) + a minimum of 20 hours logged driving time</li> <li>Senior Lifeguard Award - Patrol Captain</li> <li>Marine VHF Radio Operators</li> <li>800 metre pool swim in under 14 minutes</li> <li>Run 3km in under 20 minutes</li> <li>Current First Aid Level 1 </li> <li>Current First Aid Level 2</li> <li>Club Endorsement to attend the school </li> </ul> <h3>For more information, please click <a data-udi="umb://media/e970030e116340ca8e1878d37005e48f" href="/media/988346/national-lifeguard-school-flyer_2019.pdf" title="National Lifeguard School Flyer">here</a></h3> <h3><strong>APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN: </strong>To apply, please click <a href="https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NZPSCJ6" title="2019/20 National Lifeguard School Application">here</a></h3> Development
