Core WSNZ Board appointment

We are pleased to announce that Michael Bassett-Foss will take over from Brent Warner as the SLSNZ representative on the Water Safety NZ ('WSNZ') Board, with the WSNZ Board Appointments Panel endorsing his nomination.

SLSNZ is one of three 'core' members of WSNZ (the other two being Swimming New Zealand and Coastguard New Zealand), which provides SLSNZ with a dedicated position on the WSNZ Board.

This is a very important role and Michael brings a lot of relevant experience to it, in particular; an international connection with his role on the ILS Drowning Prevention Commission, extensive involvement with local government and governance experience with recent Board roles with WSNZ, SLSNZ and the Economic Development Association of NZ.

He has many years of active participation in the water safety sector in New Zealand with surf lifesaving, swimming and WSNZ itself. This includes being involved with the start of the Water Safety Sector Strategy, which is now being implemented.

Michael will hold the role until the next WSNZ AGM (around 9th October 2017) and then he will go through the normal appointment process for a subsequent normal three year term.

The SLSNZ Board were delighted with the calibre of the candidates who put themselves forward for the role and thank all those who applied.
