Condolences over passing of SLSNZ Life Member

Thursday, 7 May 2015

Surf Life Saving New Zealand is saddened to advise that Life Member Ian Maclaine passed away in Auckland yesterday afternoon.

More commonly known as Mac or Macca, he joined the Waipu Cove Surf Life Saving Club in 1964 and acted as club president for seven years during which time membership increased from five to 45 active lifeguards. The club honoured him with Life Membership in 1976.

Ian acted as a commentator, mainly for surf boats, and he retired as an official last year.

He received a SLSNZ Service Award in 1984, a SLSNZ Distinguished Service Award in 1989, Northern Region Life Membership in 1996, became a Life Member in 2007 and last year, he received a SLSNZ 50 Year Badge at the national Awards of Excellence. He truly was "In it for Life."

Our condolences go to his wife Susan, his daughter Amy and the rest of the family and friends at this sad time.
